Legon Cities and Great Olympics shared the spoils in the mini Accra derby staged at the nation’s Wembley on Friday night.
Goals from Yakubu Mohammed and former Black Starlets wideman Sulley Ibrahim canceled each other out in an entertaining one-all draw in the Ghana Premier League.
The game began on a frenzy with both teams announcing their intentions of grabbing all three points at stake.
It was Legon Cities FC who got a sniff of goal when Cephas Doku shot straight into the waiting arms of the Great Olympics glovesman after just a minute.
The chance spurned spurred the home side as they proved further for an early lead.
And it was on one of such probe which saw Yakubu Mohammed coolly slotting in the first goal after going past the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Moments later, Accra Great Olympics nearly got their equalizer in the 26th minute only to be thwarted by the agile Fatau Dauda in post for the home side.
A timely clearance by the captain of Olympics denied the Royals from doubling their lead after thirty minutes.
But things turned sour in the next few minutes for the homesters when former youth star Ibrahim Sulley got the equalizer for the Dade Boys.
It proved to be the last goal of the first stanza as music diva, Wendy Shay took to the pitch to thrill the fans with her performance on St Valentine’s Day during half time.
The second half didn’t fail to live up to expectation as the performance from Afro beat Queen, Wendy Shay spurred the home side on but were undone by a lack of cutting edge up front.
A number of half-hearted penalty appeals by the home side were waved off by the Centre referee as Legon Cities went in search for a win against Olympics in the mini Accra derby.
Five minutes of additional time was not enough to separate both sides as they settled for a one-all stalemate.
