Tanzania is constructing Africa’s new largest stadium, Dodoma Stadium at a cost of $100 million. The stadium will have a capacity of up to 100,000 spectators.
Many people are against the idea of a new stadium.
Intro Nerd said: “The biggest structures require a lot of maintenance. So when we budget for such structures, we must also be very clear how income will be generated not only to pay the loan but to maintain it too. Just word of caution, we have seen many a white elephant.”
Kuzwane Masinda said: “I don’t want to sound judgemental, but most of the countries in Africa do not need such projects. We need to industrialise our villages and township that will boost our GDP growth and contribute towards our employment growth. We need to reflect on this well.”
Tsoko Mukanya said: “Their football is not even recognised. By whom should it be recognised to warrant the construction of a new stadium? Besides, are stadiums used solely for football purposes?”
Some said they should build high tech schools. Lagos Champion said: “I hope Tanzania has a far better maintenace culture. This is what we lack in Nigeria. Let’s hope there are big games and events that are able to fill the stadium.”
