Ghanaian defender Joseph Aidoo was impressive once again for Celta Vigo as they held LaLiga giants FC Barcelona to a 2-2 stalemate to dent the title hopes of the Catalans.
Despite Celta Vigo shipping in two goals, the former KRC Genk guardsman was strong in defence as his side’s purple patch since football resumed in Spain continued unabated.
Forward Luis Suarez broke the deadlock after twenty minutes when the Argentine magician, Lionel Messi, lifted a well weighted free-kick onto the head of the Uruguayan.
Five minutes after recess, Fedor Smolov put Celta Vigo on level pegging but the Messi-Suarez combo worked the trick again for Quique Setien’s side in the 67th minute.
Talisman, Iago Aspas levelled matters for the home side once again with two minutes left on the clock. Whiles the result dents Barcelona’s quest to retain their LaLiga crown it boosts Celta Vigo’s chances for survival – six points away from the magical number 40.
Aidoo lasted the entire duration of the game, playing in a three-man defence. It’s his second 90-minute game on the trot since football resumed.
