The Ministry of Youth and Sports have expressed their condolences to the family of the late Alfred ‘The Cobra’ Kotey on his demise.

Hailing from Bukom, a suburb of the capital known for churning out world beaters in the noble act of self defense – Boxing – Alfred Kotey better known as the Cobra was World Boxing Organization (WBO) Bantamweight champion and had represented Ghana at the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988.

A release from the Sports Ministry signed by Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah reads:

In the past two months, Kotey, who was living in the US, had battled ill health.

He had a stroke in the midst of other complications and gave up the ghost on the month of July the same month that brought him the greatest glory of annexing a world championship.
