Benjamin Obeng Sekyere, the second vice chairman of the National Circles Council has thrown his weight behind Nana Yaw Amponsah to be the club’s new Chief Executive Officer.

The Phar Rangers financier appears to be the preferred choice of the twelve-member board of directors as they draw curtains on their month-long search for a replacement for GFA Executive Council member, George Amoako as the club’s new CEO.

According to multiple reports, last year’s GFA presidential candidate will be named as the Chief Executive Officer of the Reds this week.

Despite the clamour for Nana Yaw Amponsah to steer the affairs of Asante Kotoko, there have been some strong voices who have raised alarm bells about his affiliation with the club’s archenemy, Hearts of Oak – which is unsubstantiated.

Throwing his weight behind Nana Yaw Amponsah, Benjamin Obeng Sekyere told Kumasi-based Mabesh TV:

“I have heard a lot circulating in the media and also from our supporters that he [Nana Yaw Amponsah] is a Phobian and so shouldn’t be considered for the Kotoko job but sincerely there’s no record to show he has ever taken an official position with our rivals,”

“Even at that am not sure we know the club affiliations of players we recruit as well as coaches so it’s neither here nor there,” he made the point to buttress his point.

“For me, I support his coming and hopes he get the nod to steer affairs of our club,he’s the kind we need,” he ended.
