Black Stars B forward Shafiu Mumuni has shed light on his botched move to Romania side CFR Cluj despite completing his mandatory medicals.
Mumuni enjoyed a goal-laden 2019 banging in three different hattricks within the calendar year amid gazumping the top scorer’s award in last year’s WAFU Zone B tournament – which Ghana finished as runners-up behind Senegal.
His stellar campaign aroused the interest of Romania outfit CFR Cluj, where he managed to complete his medicals in anticipation of a deal but his move hit a snag.
“I completed my medicals at Romania but the league was cancelled because of Covid-19” he explained to Kumasi-based Sikka FM.
His failed move meant he had to renew his stay with Ashgold but a myriad of issues proved inimical to a contract renewal at the Miners.
“Ashanti GoldSC were willing to engage me again but there were some financial issues which was recently settled and I’ve not heard from them since then.”
Currently, Mumuni is a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the Obuasi-based club with Asante Kotoko hovering around the prolific forward.
“My contract with Ashanti Gold SC came to an end on July.”
