DSP Edmund Nyamekye, the commander of the Offinso Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has revealed what really caused the death of young footballers on the Offinso-Kumasi road.

It would be recalled that a colts football club, African Vision were involved in a ghastly accident at the Offinso on Saturday after the car they were traveling on, submerged.

The colts team comprising players and their handlers were headed to Kronum-Afrancho having undergone their District Colts football registration exercise at Offinso in the Ashanti region.

Narrating how the unfortunate incident transpired, DSP Nyamekye told Kumasi-based OTEC FM:

“The driver lost control of the steer and in fact, we also highly suspect that he was over speeding so he lost control and that resulted into this accident,”

“He veered off his lane and went and hits an embankment of the river, and suddenly, landed in the river. Six (6) of the players between the age of 12 and 15 died at the spot” He added

The GFA and the NJC have dispatched a team to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi to visit the accident victims.
