Najeeb Yakubu’s FC Vorskla Poltava is out of the Ukrainian Cup in the Fourth Round of the Competition after their 1-0 defeat against Fk Ahrobiznes Volochysk on Wednesday afternoon.
The speedy Ghanaian International was handed Attacking duties at left-wing role, tormented the opponents’ goal area but his effort was not complimented enough to win the day for Vorskla at the Yunist.
Ukrainian international Ruslan Cherne 25th minute goal separated both sides as Yakubu and his teammates suffered defeat at the the Oleksiy Butovskyi Vorskla Stadium.
The visitors fought tooth and nail in a bid to pull the equalizer but to no avail.
The opportunity came on the 42nd minute for Vorskla but Dennis Vasin wasted the spot-kick to leave the game at 1-0 for the home side moving into the second half.
The second half saw Vorskla returning with more energy and creating numerous chances but failing to put the chances at the back of the net.
A perfect opportunity came for Vorskla to draw when Najeeb Yakubu won an aerial challenge closer to the goal area but the tap-in was parried away by the opponent’s goalkeeper.
He lasted for the entire duration of the game.
Both side failed to score in the second half with the game ending 1-0 after regulation time.
The Ghanaian full back and his team-mates failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Ukrainian Cup and they have to now focus on the domestic League.
