Oostende forward Fashion Sakala has his heart set on a move to England in 2021 with Newcastle United and West Ham linked, as reported by the Sun (13 December, page 59).
If Magpies or Hammers fans greeted the above sentence with a nonplussed shrug of the shoulders, we don’t blame you.
Sakala is hardly a household name on Tyneside or in the East End after all and, if he does make a dream move to the Premier League during the January transfer window, he would arrive amid plenty of scrutiny.
Having said that, the 23-year-old Zambia international is highly rated over in Belgium and his goal-scoring record, while hardly remarkable, is at least respectable.
Sakala has hit the target five times from 14 Jupiler League matches in 2020/21, notching eight in 28 last season.
The quicksilver forward can play anywhere in the attack, either through the middle or out wide. Like a right-footed Jarrod Bowen, the West Ham target has made a habit of cutting inside from the left before firing pinpoint efforts into the bottom corner.
With the January window just a fortnight away, the Sun claims that Sakala hopes to swap Belgium for England in the near future.
Interestingly, Sakala recently linked up with the Wasserman agency, a group who represent the likes of Joe Gomez, Clement Lenglet, Tyrone Mings and Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde.
The report adds that as-yet unnamed Championship clubs could make an offer for the rapid attacker.
