According to the latest developments in Ghana, Jonathan Mensah and midfielder Mubarak Wakaso have been handed a late call-up into the Black Stars squad.
The two players are expected to join the 32 home-based players who have been called up by coach C.K Akonnor for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nation qualifiers next month.
The gaffer’s decision to give the local based players a chance is said to be influenced by the travel restrictions imposed by most European countries due to the coronavirus.
With the duo on a break from their regular season and enjoying holidays in Ghana, Akonnor has deemed it fit to include them in his set up.
Wakaso represented Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese Super League where he played an important role in their season while Mensah captained Columbus Crew to win the Major League Soccer title in the just ended season.
The had been excluded from the Black Stars team since the 2019 AFCON but the qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe gives him an opportunity to regain his spot in the team.
