The Ghanaian FA Cup which has been a preserve of the Kumasi-based outfit since the competition returned after a 10-year hiatus.

Apparently, it appears the upper echelons of the club are contemplating on dumping the competition to channel their efforts solely on the Ghana Premier League.

Per reports filed by Oyerepa FM, the club believes it has been bedeviled with niggling injuries which they argue could escalate should they participate in this year’s MTN FA Cup which will feature some 110 clubs across the Ghanaian football pyramid.

Asante Kotoko gaffer, Mariano Barretto has even lamented about the lack of protection offered by referees when his key players are tackled with Fabio Gama and Ibrahim Imoro as reference points with the latter out due to injury.

It remains to bee seen if the club will actually opt out of the MTN FA Cup – which provides an avenue for the outfit to feature in Africa considering the competitive nature of the local league with Medeama leading the log with a single point followed closely by Kotoko.
