Ghanaian defender Najeeb Yakubu saw red as Vorskla Poltava shared the spoils with Desna in the Ukrainian Premier League at the Poltava stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Vorskla Poltava drew first blood after eighteen minutes with hopes of arresting their poor run of form – last recording a win on April 17 – but nine minutes after recess the away side levelled the score which proved to be the last goal of the game as both sides settled for the stalemate.
Yakubu gave a good account of himself and lasted 87 minutes – three minutes shy from playing 90 minutes – before been sent off by the centre referee after accumulating two yellow cards in the keenly contested fixture.
The versatile defender received his first caution after 62 minutes before bowing out of the game unceremoniously with his second bookable offence and subsequently a red card in the 87th minute – his second sending off in the ongoing campaign.
The draw leaves Vorskla in sixth position on the league log and essentially out of European places.
