Bechem United FC suffered a narrow defeat to capital-based giants Accra Hearts of Oak SC at home on Wednesday afternoon in week 24 of the ongoing Ghana Premier League.
A solitary strike from man-of-the-moment Ibrahim Salifu, affectionately called Di Maria was more than enough as the Phobians climbed the league log to second position.
Bechem United, the home side started the game on a blistering pace and created few openings but failed to make good use of their early dominance as the Rainbow Club held on the opening embers of the game.
Hearts of Oak weathered the storm, grew in confidence and gave the Hunters a good run for their money as the ‘thick midfield’ paraded by coach Samuel Boadu dominated proceedings as they sought to arrest their poor away form.
Despite their resurgence, the Phobians failed to break the virginity of the game as the first half ended goalless.
After the recess, the homesters upped the ante in search for the opening goal but a mixture of profligacy and a sturdy defence marshalled by Mohammed Alhassan shut Bechem United out.
However, former Techiman Eleven Wonders ‘darling boy’ Ibrahim Salifu notched a sterling goal with his weaker right foot after meandering his way through a forest of legs as the Phobians sealed an all important three away points for Hearts of Oak.
Coach Samuel Boadu’s charges moved to second on the league log after winning their game against Bechem United on Wednesday afternoon – it means the Phobians have done the double over the Hunters.
