Erstwhile Chelsea winger Christian Atsu Twasam has ended his five-year stint with English Premier League outfit Newcastle United following the expiration of his contract.

Atsu, 29, joined the Tyneside club on an initial loan deal from Chelsea and made it permanent a season after. He glittered for the Magpies during their return to the Premier League under the guidance of Spanish gaffer Rafael Benitez.
Following the departure of the former Liverpool manager, Atsu’s career at the Sports Direct Arena saw headed South struggling to break through Steve Bruce’s match day squad and was virtually frozen out of the team in the 2020-2021 Premier League till the expiration of his contract.
On Monday he announced his decision to leave the Magpies after five years. He took to social media to announce his departure.
“When I arrived in Newcastle almost 5 years ago, I was made to feel welcome from the start..by everyone at the club and especially by the fans. I grew to love the city and my young family feel very at home here,” Atsu wrote.
“Sadly, the time has now come for me to leave the club, so I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who is part of the Newcastle United family.
“Thank you to the Toon Army fans, a lot of whom I’ve met around the city. I will never forget my time in the North East and for sure I will follow the results every week. Thank you my Geordie staff, players & fans, it’s been a pleasure!”
It remains to be seen where next the former FC Porto prodigy will join as clubs in the gulf region have been linked with the left-footed attacker.
A move to a side were regular game time will be guaranteed will be a major factor on the table of Atsu’s representatives as he seeks for a return to the Black Stars.
