Tough-talking tactician J.E Sarpong has expressed his disappointment in Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor following the appointment of Patrick Greveraars as assistant coach.
According to widespread reports in the local media, the former Asante Kotoko trainer petitioned the Ghana Football Association to appoint Greveraars as his assistant to augment his backroom staff.
The decision which was officially announced yesterday has caused a stir in the local media landscape dividing opinions on the wisdom behind the appointment of the 45-year-old Greveraars.
Wading into the discussion, experienced trainer J. E. Sarpong considers the decision by CK Akonnor as a stab in the back and regards the situation as insulting to local coaches.
Speaking on Rainbow Sports Sarpong, who has handled a plethora of clubs on the domestic scene, hinted that the decision by CK Akonnor invariably underlines the incompetence of local coaches.
“It means that Ghanaian technical men are incompetent. He has insulted us. He should never complain when things start going bad. He requested for the coach and so, he should not complain. But he should know he has betrayed all local coaches.”
The new Assistant coach, Patrick Greveraars is a UEFA License A holder with over 25 years of worldwide top football experience.
The 45-year-old previously worked with PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto, Vitesse Arnhem, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Anorthosis Famagusta and Al Shabab Dubai.
