London-based dyed-in-the-wool Chelsea fan Abu Bakr Bapube presented a customized smock to French midfield linchpin N’Golo Kante on the back of the latter aiding the English side annex the UEFA Champions League last Saturday.
Playing in their third Champions League final, Chelsea pipped favorites and Premier League winners Manchester City at the Estadio do Dragao in Portugal over the weekend in an All-English final.
At the center of Chelsea’s second UEFA Champions League scalp, the diminutive midfield icon played a crucial role especially in the latter stages of the competition, where he picked the man-of-the-match awards in the semi-final against Real Madrid and in the finals as well to cap off a rollercoaster season.
Kante endured a difficult start to the 2020-2021 season where he was on the periphery but the sack of Lampard proved to be the game changer as Thomas Tuchel soon drafted the French midfielder back to his favorite position and the rest as they say was history.
His affable and down-to-earth nature has won the hearts of many across the globe and it comes as little surprise that he got a taste of Ghanaian culture to boot with his Champions League medal.
Bapube, who presented the smock to Kante also got the chance to wear his winner’s medal. He took to his official Facebook page to share the heartwarming story.
